Course Preparation Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)

Your Certified ScrumMaster course presents a learning opportunity that you are likely to get only once. A little preparation will go a long way in helping you to get the most out of our course time together. Please put aside at least 45 minutes to complete the following applicable steps.

Please read / watch the following items carefully. Make notes as you go. Our course builds on knowledge

1. The Manifesto for Agile Software Development including its Principles – the original articulation of “Agile”

In addition to the four value statements, please note the twelve principles. Please take the time to reflect on what these words mean as well as the degree to which you and those that you work with genuinely share these values and follow these principles.

2. The Scrum Guide – the definition of Scrum by its inventors

This is the core body of Scrum knowledge that the course and post-course certification test are based on. With 13 pages of content, it is a short but very important read.

3. Scrum Essentials in Under 10 Minutes (10 mins) – video from Scrum Alliance

This reinforces what you have read in The Scrum Guide with visuals and emphasis of key points.

4. Complexity, Cynefin, and Agile (8 mins) – Excellent overview and a powerful example of how Agile aligns with the Cynefin framework.

Watching these videos allow you to cover some of the Scrum Foundations at your own pace in as little as 45 minutes. Covering the Scrum Theory and Values, Roles, Events and Artefacts in this way allows us to use our time together for more in-depth and CSM-specific material.

This 15 question multiple-choice quiz will identify areas of clarity as well as gaps in your understanding of the Agile and Scrum Foundations material.

1. Open: Socrative.com – Student Login

2. Enter room name DDMMP where DDMM is the day and month of the first day of the course.

3. Enter your name.

4. Select JOIN.

5. Complete the quiz.

Correct answers will be revealed upon submitting each question.

Please retake if necessary until you have >50% correct. You make take the quiz as many times as you like.

This includes familiarising yourself with using the online whiteboard tool Miro that we will be using extensively throughout the course. An essential part of this is creating a profile for yourself on the Miro board that will be used at the start of the course.

Please complete this step at least 48 hours prior to course commencement. Failure to do so is likely to hold up all participants at the start of the first session.
