Course Preparation Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

Your Certified Scrum Product Owner course presents a learning opportunity that you are likely to get only once. A little preparation will go a long way in helping you to get the most out of our course time together. Please put aside at least 80 minutes to complete all of the following.

Step 1: Familiarisation with Agile and Scrum Foundations.

Please read / watch the following items carefully making notes as you go.

  1. The Manifesto for Agile Software Development – the original articulation of “Agile”

In addition to the four value statements, please note the twelve principles. Please take the time to reflect on what these words mean as well as the degree to which you and those that you work with genuinely share these values and follow these principles.

  1. The Scrum Guide – the definition of Scrum by its inventors

This is the core body of Scrum knowledge that the course and post-course certification test are based on. With 13 pages of content, it is a short but very important read.

  1. Scrum Foundations eLearning Series videos (approx. 45 mins) – from Scrum Alliance

Watching these videos allow you to cover some of the Scrum Foundations at your own pace in as little as 45 minutes. Covering the Scrum Theory and Values, Roles, Events and Artefacts in this way allows us to use our time together for more in-depth and CSPO-specific material.

  1. Agile Product Ownership in a Nutshell video  (16 mins)

A well articulated explanation of the Product Owner role. Note that some terminology is not Scrum-specific and the scaling approach described in the final minute is not recommended for organisations interested in optimising for highest customer value.

  1. Impact Mapping – Visualizing impacts of your software with a demo with Astah (4 mins)

You will need to be familiar with Impact Mapping to this level for an exercise half-way through the course.

Step 2: Have basic stationery available

For some exercises we will be inviting you to draw or write with an old fashioned pen and paper! Please have the following basic stationery on hand for each of our live online sessions.

  • A couple of sheets of blank paper (ideally unlined)
  • A pen – ideally a Sharpie or medium-thickness marker pen

Step 3 (Live Online Course Only): Complete the Pre-course Board on Miro.

This includes familiarising yourself with using the online whiteboard tool Miro that we will be using extensively throughout the course. An essential part of this is creating a profile for yourself on the Miro board that will be used at the start of the course.

Please complete this step at least 48 hours prior to course commencement. Failure to do so is likely to hold up all participants at the start of the first session.

For the link to this Pre-course Miro board, please see your course calendar invitation or the course preparation email.

Step 4 (Live Online Course Only): Live Online Classroom Preparation.

Please also work through our Live-Online Classroom Preparation steps to minimise your chance of a technical issue impeding your access to this learning opportunity.

That’s it for the CSPO Course Preparation. Well done! Thanks for being well prepared so that we can maximise our progress during the course.
